Additional Details

Several of the sparse entries are intriguing, including war news: "The shamefull defeat at Ticonderoga by treachery" is noted on 8 July, and "Cape Breton taken by ye English" on 26 July. The author notes "Jonathan Stubbs died at Moses Brown's, ill four days" (12 August); the historical record shows that this took place in North Yarmouth, Maine. Other persons named here also seem to be from Yarmouth, a location supported by mentions of multiple trips to York, ME and Halifax, NS. We believe Jonas Mason (1708-1801) was the author. He moved to North Yarmouth in 1731, and mentions the death of his sister Millicent Newell "in Nov'r last" on 26 February.
